17TH ADIDAS ITALIAN OPEN

The annual International Italian Karate Open took place on Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd April in its new location, Rimini, a charming setting for the 17th annual event.

Representing Shu Ren Kan were Greta Ampollini in Kata Novices A and Silvia Coppola in Kumite Novices B, respectively trained and accompanied by Giorgio Ferrari and Manuel Bazzocchi. Silvia deservedly won two rounds in Kumite on Saturday, only to be eliminated on Hantei (points) after a tight 0-0 result in the knockout round.

On Sunday, Greta Ampollini achieved an excellent result of fifth place in her first experience competing in an Open. Winning the first two rounds 4-1 and 5-0, Greta was knocked out in the third round by a highly prepared athlete from Cremona, although she still managed to qualify for the finals and get third place. Greta won the penultimate round 5-0 but took third place in the final round against an athlete from Tuscany. Greta nevertheless acquitted herself very well in this competition, showing technical improvements that bode well for the future.

Dario Carapellucci, currently representing Shu Ren Kan, though on this occasion competing for his original home school, Zanshin Club from Alanno, Abruzzo, was entered in the Kumite Senior -84kg Category and took seventh place.

These excellent results again demonstrate the excellent preparation and hard work of all the Shu Ren Kan trainers and athletes.
